A trip down the weirdness path

I've been reading 'High Weirdness' by Erik Davis.  The books tag line:  Drugs, Esoterica and Visionary Experience in the Seventies sums up the strangeness of the book.  In exploring these concepts, Erik Davis focuses on three of my favorite authors (Robert Anton Wilson, Philip K Dick and Terence Mckenna).  The book is dense, but I am really enjoying it.

In discussing the strangeness of quantum physics, Erik Davis mentions that it was a 1976 issue of Analog magazine that first drew the public's attention to Hugh Everett's 'many-worlds' interpretation of quantum foolery.  That lead me (in this world) to googling around in which I discovered that the 1976 issue with the aforementioned article was the December issue.  With that knowledge I ran to Ebay and found that I  could purchase that issue.  Of course I couldn't just buy that single issue when someone was selling a lot of 21 different issues, including the one I was looking for!

The article in question.

The other 20.

Dug this cover by Mike Hinge from February of 1977.

Anyways, I am looking forward to exploring these worlds of wonder.  Thanks Eric Davis for leading me down this path, I look forward to some further discoveries.

"The possibility of 10^100+ universes, all imperfect copies of each other and all totally unaware of each other's presence, has awesome implications. Here is a system of parallel or alternate worlds beyond the manipulative skill of any science fiction writer. [editor's note:  I feel Robert Anton Wilson did a good job with this in his Schrodinger's Cat trilogy.]  In Schrodinger's experiment, for every cat that survives in our universe, in another universe one dies.  Not only does every quantum mechanical event in our universe cause an indefinite - a number so incomprehensibly large that it cannot even be called infinite! - number of divisions, but perhaps all possible realities exist simultaneously.  In such a garden of the forking paths, the solution to the dilemma of indeterminism may be a universe in which all possible outcomes of an experiment actually occur." - Analog December 1976 'Quantum Physics and Reality' by Michael Talbot and Lloyd Biggle Jr.
High weirdness indeed.

Soul food

Have you taken the proper steps to feed your soul today?  There is probably some weeding to be done in the garden of your mind.  Some pruning and watering of ideas.  Or perhaps, plant an idea seed to harvest later.

A quote about the Fool

"The Fool traditionally has the right to speak truth to power and is often the only character who can understand the big picture.  It is only the Fool who gets the Cosmic Joke, and if you have not seen the humor in something, you have not seen the truth of it.  Plus, the Fool is allowed to muck about and arse around..."  - John Higgs (Talking about the Fool in his newsletter)

Jung quote

"There is only one way and that is your way.  There is only one salvation and that is your salvation.  Why are you looking for help?  Do you believe help will come from outside?  What is to come will be created in you and from you.  Hence look into yourself.  Do not compare.  Do not measure.  No other way is like yours.  All other ways deceive and tempt you.  You must fulfill the way that is in you."  - Carl Jung

The light was just right

It looks black and white but that was because the light was just right.

I am really enjoying these video walks around Tokyo.  Getting lost in a city I've never been.  Has a sort of psychedelic feel to it.  Also a bit voyeuristic.  I was amazed to see how many wear hospital masks while walking around.  This Rambalac youtube channel has several more videos as well.

July 23rd is Robert Anton Wilson Day

Another morning

Another morning. The sun is up, yet hiding behind the rain filled clouds, casting a dull light upon my immediate surroundings. Just got up to pour hot water into a french press. It will only be a few more minutes until I get my chemically induced alertness flowing into my veins. Whether I like it or not, this is the time that I am aware of. This modern moment and all its high weirdness is what I have to work with. A gloomy Tuesday isn’t so bad when you don’t have to go to work. Could make for a nice reading day. Coffee should be done steeping. Be right back (whether it was just a mere moment that passed or an eternity, the reader can hardly know). The placebo effect kicks in with the first sip. Not enough time for the caffeine chemicals to reach the brain, yet my energy level has improved. The mind, fooled by its expectations, plays along with the charade.

A photo that I found on my computer when I was searching for something to post.
